Outside, the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark, I’m aching to be free
The show must go on
The show must go on
……

—— Queen, The Show Must Go On, 1991
The exhibition takes its title, “The Show Must Go On” by the British rock band Queen, and aims to explore how individuals go forward when facing real-life hardship and an unpromising future. The artworks selected and commissioned by the Soil Collection convey an internalized spiritual power. Among them, the artists either explore their identities at the root and environment of their existence or try to understand themselves through sincere revelations. These works speak volumes through their silent and prudent gestures while proven self-evident through absurd and playful approaches. The exhibition showcases the individual’s contemplation, wandering, and circuitous resolutions in the face of external forces and self-predicament. It responds to the various barricades between the individual and the collective, the internal and the external, the real and the ideal, while probing how to build consensus.

The exhibition “The Show Must Go On” highlights the individual’s contemplation between progress and retreat amid uncertainty. It emphasizes the transmissible poetic and perceptual dimensions, providing a possible approach to confronting the unpromised unknown. The subject of the works on view embodies specific differences and wills, which are translated into more refined visual forms and languages. While avoiding falling into self-objectification, the exhibition intentionally refrains from imagining a center, instead attempting to establish connections within heterogeneity.

Whether addressing art in reality or a site that takes place here, the exhibition shares simple values and the sincerest friendship. Regardless of going upstream and downstream, one travels alone or joins hands to make the show go on ashore.
